Franco-Prussian Armies - Baden


Infantry


Headgear


The helmet was of the Prussian pattern with a red on yellow national cockade. Instead of the Prussian Eagle the Baden State Arms were on the front in brass. The undress cap was of the Prussian pattern.

Tunic.


The tunic was the same cut as the Prussian tunic except that the cuff patches were not piped. Shoulder straps were as follow;

The 1st (Lieb) Regiment had a tunic the same as the Prussian 1st Foot Guards, with brass buttons and a red crown on the shoulder strap.

Trousers and other equipment were the same as those of the Prussians, except that the haversack was cowhide suspended on a black leather strap.

Officers again were the same as their Prussian counterparts except that the sword slings were red leather.

Cavalry


The three Dragoon regiments wore the same uniform as the Prussian Dragoons with the Baden arms on the helmets in pewter as were the tunic buttons. Facings and piping were as follow

Shabraques followed the Prussian pattern except that the 3rd regiment had an inset black band.

Officers pouch belts were silver with red striped and gold clasps. The pouch was silver.

Artillery


Again the artillery followed the Prussian pattern but with a yellow grenade on the shoulder strap. Belts were white.

Generals

 
Generals and staff officers followed the Prussian pattern.
