  1. Dear Mark,
about the Italian Army of 1866 the Division had 2 Brigades each with 2 Infantry Regiments and 1 Bersaglieri battalion. Each Infantry Regiment is composed of 4 battalions.(Total 16 Infantry battalions and 2 Bersaglieri battalions) The Division had also 3 Artillery batteries (each with 6 guns). The Cavalry had 2 or 3 Regiments brigaded at Corps level. The "Alpini" (mountain infantry) corps was founded only in 1872 after the 3 wars of Italian Independence (1848/49, 1859 and 1866).

Thank you for your very interesting and informative blog.

    Greetings.

    1. Thank you Marco. That is the army structure I use in my games, although I only have one brigade of infantry. I am going to be on Italy about this time next year (in Milano though, not your home town) can you suggest any military museums or similar in Milano?

  2. Dear Mark,
you can visit the Risorgimento Museum (http://www.museodelrisorgimento.mi.it/) with paints and uniforms from the Napoleonic time till the Italian unification.
Another must is the Poldi Pezzoli Museum with a huge collection of renaissance arms and armours. (http://www.museopoldipezzoli.it/#!/en/discover).
If you have other questions about Italian history I am happy to answer to you.
    Ciao!
    Marco
