War of 1812 Project

The 9th US Infantry, the first unit of infantry for Scott's Brigade in the War of 1812 is completed.

I have designated this the 9th Regiment (simply because it is the first in the list).

The figures are remarkably easy to paint due to the simplicity of their uniform, although their grey jackets makes them a little dull.

  1. They look good Mark - hope to see them on a table top alongside my guys at a game in the near future!

  2. How have you based these by the way - it looks like four bases??

    1. Yes I have done them in fours, but the equivalent of the six stands we usually use - the same way I based the Russians so that one base equals one and a half of our standard bases. It gives me more flexilibilty to have some units as threes or fours.

  3. Looking good. Grey jackets are drab by themselves, but will stand out if surrounded by more colourful units.

    1. Thanks Nathan. Don't get me wrong, the Americans are coming up well (and I can see some scope creep here with another four or five regiments being added to this project in due course), but with all the greatcoated figures I have done in the last year I yearn for colour...and I will certainly get that with the French in Egypt!

  4. Man, can sure crank out out units! I don’t think the grey jackets look dull at all.

    1. You see this is the problem when I have two diverse batches of figures in hand...I get half way through one batch and I am tempted by the other batch...those colourful French are calling from Egypt.

    1. Thank you Phil. The flags are straight off the Warflags site.

    1. Thanks Iain. The second US unit should be finished painting tonight and based over the weekend. I actually have the first of the Egyptian figures glued up ready for painting, but it is not one of the colourful units - a camel limber set with Ottoman driver. So no real colour yet, but something quite different all the same.

  7. Nice work on these. Free-handing the 'US' insignia on all those back-packs and water-bottles must be driving you to distraction.

    1. Painting the “US” is an issue for me - my hand writing is bad at the best of times so painting them is a struggle.
